Who says bowls is for oldies?

Junior Singles Tournament to be held at Chawton Park on Sunday March 12th

Chawton Park IBC’s coaching team’s Junior Singles Tournament has attracted 35 junior entrants from across Hampshire with ages ranging from 7 to 18 years. They represent Loddon Vale, Banister Park, Palmerston, Victory and Chawton Park Indoor Bowls Clubs.

Five of the competitor are from Chawton Park Indoor Bowling Club. Following their success at the recent Hampshire Junior Singles event, two of them, Samuel Fyfield (aged 10yrs) and Reece Graham (aged 11 yrs) have achieved a place to compete at the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme’s South of England Regional Finals that will be held at Horsham bowling Club, Surrey, in April. They will be representing Hampshire and competing against other young bowlers from Surrey, Kent and Sussex.

For Sunday’s tournament at Chawton Park, the players will be competing against each other in a Round Robin in three separate groups. The under 12 years group has 22 entrants. The under 15 years has 6 and under 18 has 7 entrants. The logistics of the competition involve more than 80 games!

The first matches take place at 9.00am and the presentation is scheduled for 5.00pm. the Mayor of Alton, Councillor Matthew Bayliss has kindly agreed to present certificates to all the competitors and the Hampshire Open Singles and Southern Region EBYDS Organiser, Mrs Maxeen Fletcher will present the winners’ trophies. Tristan has agreed to cater for the all-day tournament and will have menus breakfast and lunch available for purchase.
